Let's Make your dream bandana...

Thanks so much for submitting a custom bandana inquiry. We have a few different options and the pricing varies within them.  Below I will describe each option in detail, as well as provide you the option to order blank or printed samples.  There is a lot of information, so here is a helpful guide to jump to the relevant areas:

Option 1: grown/sewn in usa bandana with overlock edge

The first is our USA grown/sewn cotton bandanas with an overlock edge. This is our most economical option. The USA grown/sewn bandanas are not manufactured by us, they have an overlock edge and are just your standard issue bandana. They are typical of your standard bandana you would find in a craft shop.

They are cut and sewn by machinery (I have seen it in action, very cool!), this is made possible by the stiffness of the fabric due to the coloring process. Once the bandana is washed, it softens considerably.  The exception to this is the natural/undyed option, which is soft from the get go, as it does not go through the process to give the fabric color.

However the threads used to weave this fabric are open end spun which produces a coarser, fuzzier fabric that is known for its durability and ability to withstand washing and wear.  It is commonly used in workwear, and it is well suited for a bandana fabric in this regard. It will continue to get softer with increased use and washing.  Turnaround time 2-3 weeks from payment.

Option 2: Japanese cotton, Made in USA

The next option is our Japanese cotton blanks.  Our Japanese cotton bandanas are also made in the USA.  I import the fabric directly from the mill in Japan and then it is hand cut and sewn into blanks with a folded and stitched hem. This fabric is made of ring spun yarn which is created through a more refined (and more expensive) process, producing a softer, smoother fabric with better drape.  While not as heavy-duty as open-end cotton, ring-spun cotton is still durable and can withstand regular wear and washing. Its softer feel doesn't compromise its longevity.

We offer three fabric weights and our lightest weight Japanese cotton fabric is put through a natural process called mercerization that increases fiber strength. These premium bandanas come at a higher price point because it is quite simply a lot more labor intensive and expensive to produce them.

Below is the pricing structure for these.  Please note that we can also print in between the below quantity numbers, and the pricing will vary with the actual quantity. Turnaround time 2-4 weeks from payment.

Option 3: Imported from India, 100% organic cotton

The last option is our imported option. We can print up to 9 colors (including background color) and Pantone matching for all ink colors is included in the price. Each bandana is hand cut, printed and sewn using traditional screen printing methods on 100% organic cotton that leaves zero handfeel.  Sometimes they can feel a tiny bit stiff, but they soften up after a few washes to be EXTREMELY soft, yet heirloom quality.

With our print partners in India we can also do a variety of textiles such as tea towels, aprons, napkins, etc.  Please get in touch if you have an idea for a project that is not a bandana.  We are now offering 100% organic cotton blanks that are made in India.  The fabric is woven specifically for us and is the same as in the printed bandanas, but it is dyed with azo-free dyed and then cut and sewn.  We only have a small offering of colors for these blanks, but will be expanding it within the next few months. We can Pantone match any color for blanks beginning at 500. Turnaround time 6-8 weeks from payment.

Pricing

These start at a minimum of 100 for $9 each.  The price goes down 50 cents for every 100 you add to the qty, down to $6, which is as low as we can go with these.  If you want to add a wash/dry/press service to these, we can do that for $2/bandana.  This just expedites the softening process. These are all printed by hand and by eye, so there may be variance in the registration. Pricing includes all import duties.  Shipping is $12 up to 200 pieces, and increases to $18 for over 200 quantity.

Tips and tricks from a seasoned bandana slinger

Tips & tricks
  • When shopping in person people first do two things. The first is feeling the fabric to see if it is soft.  Our Japanese and imported options are softer from the get go, but the USA grown and sewn is not.  If you are going to be selling your bandanas in person, always have a sample that has been washed a few times to show customers how your bandana breaks in

  • The second is how the design will look when it is folded and worn.  Typically they look at how it will look folded "bandit style".  So I always encourage artists to orient elements of the design to the corners, and have those elements be right side up if worn bandit style

  • Unless people already like and have a bandana collection, no one knows what to do with them.  Have some examples of wears to wear and use handy to tell them or show them.  I can't tell you how many people have said, "I've always wanted to get into bandanas, but I don't know how to wear or use them."

  • If you are getting them made with us, we screen print, and as such, we can't print subtleties in shading like you would see in watercolors.  It all gets applied as the same thickness of ink.  We can print in halftone to give the illusion of shading, but your design needs to be print ready and follow the requirements above.  If you need help getting it print ready you can ask a friend, watch some YouTube tutorials or find someone on Fiverr or Task Rabbit that has the skills and software to do it for you!
