April: the far woods
Sisters Sonya and Nina Montenegro are the designers and makers of The Far Woods. They live on a small organic farm outside of Portland, Oregon, and formalized their creative collaboration in 2013. The things they make reflect their deepest desires about the world. They seek to contribute to a great Culture Shift in which there is a land ethic, a reverence for nature, a rejection of the dominant throw-away mentality, and direct connection to where our food and the things we use come from. Many of their artworks serve as educational tools and inspiration for reconnection to nature, food, and community. Their practice crosses disciplines, including teaching handcraft skills, beekeeping, and growing food, to work toward an ecologically-viable and socially-just future.

Love is the base upon which my creative practice is built. When I stay grounded in love, create with a honest spirit, and find my way past ego, then my work has the chance to have a meaningful and positive effect on both the viewer and myself. I believe that art is important and effects quality of life. I am incredibly humbled to feel the need to exist in order to create and share."
